[Closed] Moodle Assignment Module was created by Claudio
Hi,

I am building a website for a primary school, and am thinking to use joomdle, though I am not too sure about what Joomdle can do for me.

It is my first time either using joomla or moodle, from what I have seen Joomdle comes with a package of predifined modules, and i wonder if those are the only Moodle modules i can use in Joomla or whether Joomdle will allow me to integrate Moodle and Joomla in full???? Can I install any of the other Moodle modules in Joomla???

It is a primary school site so I do not much need I think the course modules which come with joomdle package but I wanted to use the "Assignment Moodle module" into joomla..is it possible????

All I need is that teachers can upload assinments and manage their lessons on the site, students should download these and then submit them back once they have done and have their own accounts where school reports will also be viewable. Also maybe creating lessons like quizes and uploading SCORM packages (which moodle can do) ????

Can I use any Moodle modules in Joomla????

Thanks so much

No, you cannot use Moodle modules in Joomla.

Joomdle provides limited integration with Moodle, and it is not intended to replace it.

Thank you Antonio,

what would you suggest me doing??? Can I achieve "portal" functionalities just with Joomla??? Or Should I just use Moodle separatelly for the portal and joomla for the site? In this case would I be able to centralise users and have a single log in for both???

You see this site will have image and video galleries which I think I am fine with if I use Joomla, not too sure about Moodle.

For the portal, all I need is Teachers to be able to upload homework for parents to download and submit these back. Each user would need their own account to do this. Also teacher would need to send feedback and mark the assignments for the parents to view online. Also, each parent user should be able to view school reports online.

Should I use Drupal instead?

thank you

Hi Claudio,

Joomdle, Joomla, Moodle, Drupal. Many choices, many questions ....

To start to you have a list of functionalities you require? Have you marked them in must have features and nice to have?

Basically Drupal and Joomla do similar things - they are content management systems that allow you to plugin in extensions to achieve your desired functionality. Should a feature not exist in an existing extension, you can make you own.

Moodle is very different, with a different purpose. Joomdle is a Joomla extension to join Moodle with Joomla.

I suggest once, you have your list of features you look to see whether Joomla or Moodle is best suited for your needs. From what you have described thus far, I would suggest Joomla is the appropriate tool.

Comparing Drupal and Joomla. You can perform a google search for comparisons or research on the differences. IMO, Joomla is easier to start with and will suit most peoples needs for a CMS. I prefer Joomla simply because I can find the 3rd party extensions so easily on the joomla.org site, download and install with very limited technical knowledge - so much easier than Drupal for this. And this is what is most important to me.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your help, yes I see what you are saying and checked some of the extansions in joomla. I might be able to just get away using joomla for what I need. Though, it would reasure me Moodle for the "school portal". I don't need any of the e-learning fanctionalities and probably the only Module which would suit me is the "Assignment" module in Moodle.

Parents need to have their user accounts, log in and be able to download and submit homework.
Teachers, upload homework (files), mark them and send feedback.
Parents should also be abe to view school reports and grades as they go
Teachers could manage and create lessons their lessons, quizzes and activities??? but this s not much important as it is having a single log in, can I use both and centralise users accounts???

Thanks

The more features you add the more you get closer to moodle (or something dedicated to a school environment).

Parents need to have their user accounts, log in and be able to download and submit homework.

- Could use a document management extension or a joomla to dropbox style solution.

Teachers, upload homework (files), mark them and send feedback.

- Depends on how they are marked. How they are uploaded and whether feedback is just a simple email or a notice form that parents view on your site.

Parents should also be abe to view school reports and grades as they go

- more difficult with this feature. Are these just reports, if so could be that same document management extension. If they are the physical marks with graphs, comparisons, etc. then you need to store and present the data. Might not be an extension for this.

Teachers could manage and create lessons their lessons, quizzes and activities???

- this is getting more and more like moodle or a joomla quiz or survey extension that you could use to keep entirely inside joomla.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your help, I have a bit of freedom with respect to functionalities i guess, I'll take your hint for now and have another look at the extentions... yes some of the features i had listed came after me looking through moodle modules to help me understand what fanctions I could add.

I'll keep you posted

Thanks for now,

Claudio
