sessions not synching was created by Jason E
I recently started getting calls where a lot of people are coming for a return visit and they are getting a log out notice in the moodle wrapper. I have them clear their browser cookies and log out and log back in and it works.
It seems what is happening is that the moodle sessions are cached in the browser. Both IE and Chrome. When the user comes back again, moodle doesn't accept the old session. Even if they log out and log back in, and even if I log them out and delete all the moodle sessions, they still can't get into moodle unless they clear their local cookies.
I can't attribute this change to any upgrades. I'm not sure why I'm getting these calls now and not before, but is this something common that you might know a fix for?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jason. Sorry for the slow reply, I have been away.
I have not seen that behaviour before, so unfortunately I don't have a fix to give you.
> they are getting a log out notice in the moodle wrapper
What is the exact message?
Have you been able to replicate the problem yourself? If so, does the problem happen if you open Moodle directly instead of using the wrapper?

I had something similar before and it had to do with time zones not lining up between joomla and moodle. But this is more sporadic.
I reduced the joomla login time to 4 hours which is the moodle max, and nobody has called lately.
Thanks.

Ok, just let me know if you keep on having problems. Once we can replicate the problem we can debug it.

The problem persists. I have no idea what causes it. Most times, it can be resolved if the user clears cookies from their browser and logs in again. Occasionally this does not help, but that may be a separate problem which I think may have something to do with a cache somewhere. Anyway it's better if that doesn't happen in the first place.
I really need to resolve this though because every couple of days I get a call from a user who can't use the system.
It's weird that it doesn't happen all the time, only sometimes. It may be that if the user is automatically logged out of joomla but not moodle or vise versa.
When the user logs back into joomla, the moodle session has expired and won't let them in.
Ideally, moodle would drop those old sessions and look for a new session each time a user logs into joomla or something like that.

Sorry that you are still having problems.
What is the exact message the users get from Moodle when they have the problem?
Were you able to replicate the problem somehow?
Also: in joomdle config in Joomla, what is your current value for "Use redirect-less SSO"?
